A brand-new Go Outdoors store in Team Valley, Gateshead, was opened up by EastEnders star Ross Kemp with help from Countryfile host Julia Bradbury.

Both Ross and Julia both took to social media to promote the store opening - with fans sharing their excitement to meet both TV stars at the opening ceremony.

In a video posted to Twitter, Ross said: "This Saturday I'll be opening the new Go Outdoors store in Gateshead.

"Doors open at 9am and there will be vouchers and goody bags for the first 200 people through the door. There'll be a raffle and plenty of stuff for kids to do."

A family whose dream home turned into a nightmare have slammed builders Persimmon Homes for the length of time it has taken to resolve a problem with their roof.

Clare McKee-Shell moved into the Persimmon home on the St Nicholas Manor development, in Cramlington, in 2018, with her husband Michael, 50, and their two teenage children, keen for a fresh start after Michael's health deteriorated.

"We thought a brand-new house would be such peace of mind as there would be nothing to do and no maintenance," said Clare, 49.

"Michael had suffered a period of ill-health and the new house was supposed to take away the stress of anything that could go wrong with an older house and be easier for me to manage. Unfortunately, things didn't work out like that."

The invitation from the Chelsea Flower Show just how far the 39-year-old has come since launching his business just before the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

David, from Stockton, called time on his job as an NHS dietician to open up his own house plant store The Plant Workshop in Northallerton, but when the first lockdown hit in 2020, he turned to online orders and his business quickly took off.

The latest delay to Newcastle’s proposed Clean Air Zone pollution tolls has felt almost inevitable for some time.

To those who have followed the saga over the controversial charges for years now, it has been clear that there was little to no realistic prospect of them coming into force as planned in July.

No warning signs had been put up to inform motorists, no cameras were installed to allow the toll system to function, and no grants were on offer to help people upgrade to cleaner vehicles after the Government took six months to ultimately reject a council request for extra funding.

Undoubtedly, the drivers and businesses who faced the prospect of having to pay either £12.50 or £50 per day to drive into Newcastle city centre will be utterly relieved to hear that the CAZ in on hold for now – particularly at a time when the nation is in the grip of a cost of living crisis.

But if you're now a dab hand at putting up shelves, why stop there? There are a whole host of homes across the North East in need of some love - a fresh coat of paint and in some cases a lot more than that.
